Windows 8 App: Privacy Policy

MeteoNews takes your privacy seriously.

This app does not collect any personal data. However, to be able to fulfill its purpose, it needs to query the MeteoNews servers for current weather data over the Internet. This privacy policy explains what kind of data will be sent, how it will be used, and what we do to protect your privacy.

Anonymous Usage

The usage of the application is anonymous. MeteoNews doesn't collect any personal data.

Preferences/Favorites

All settings and preferences, including the list of favorite places, are only stored locally and will never be sent anywhere.

Requests for Weather Data

The app requests the current weather data and further information such as satellite or webcam images from servers at MeteoNews. These requests will be sent unencrypted using HTTP (exactly as when you surf the web using your browser). The MeteoNews app includes only the necessary identifiers for places, weather stations, countries and the like into the request as well as the required language, but no further information.

The MeteoNews webservers, as most websites, keep a log file of these requests for technical reasons, including parameters such as source IP address of the request, time stamp, possible error codes, the number of bytes transmitted and the time it took our servers to fulfill the request.

These server logs are used by our system administrators to improve server performance, and detect and prevent malfunctions and abuse. The logs can be kept indefinitely. MeteoNews will never try to correlate these anonymous records with single users through IP addresses or any other means. MeteoNews will never share this information with third parties, unless required by Swiss law.

The servers of MeteoNews may be hosted in different countries, currently in France, Germany and Switzerland, but the logs will be transferred encrypted and timely to servers only in Switzerland.

Weather "here and now": GPS data

Only if the feature Weather "here and now" is used, the requests to our servers will obviously include your current location as GPS coordinates, as reported by your device to our app. As mentioned above for any other data, also this location data will remain anonymous.
